Former Gilas Pilipinas head coach and multi-titled tactician Rajko Toroman is back in the Philippine basketball scene after being tapped as consultant of College of St. Benilde Blazers.
“He will be a big help, I don't know If he will be able to finish the season with us as he has some job offers but he will help us prepare for two months and then we will take it from there,” said Benilde Coach Charles Tiu.
Tiu shared with GMA Regional TV News that Toroman’s presence will be a big help for the team’s campaign for the upcoming NCAA Season 99, as well as for the development of players off court.
“He will be a big help to us because, for me, it is about learning and learning and getting better every day, both for us coaches and for our players. My goal has always been to develop players to be their best versions on and off the court, so I am sure he will help us there,” Tiu added.
Tiu was part of Toroman’s coaching staff during his time with the Philippine national basketball team from 2009 to 2011.
“Rajko is like a father to me so when we spoke and I asked him to come, he agreed right away. Thankfully, his schedule finally permitted, too,” Tiu shared.
Toroman also steered the Iran national team to the FIBA Asia title conquest in Tokushima in 2007, which brought the country to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
