Filipinos will once again choose another set of leaders in the May 2025 midterm elections.

While not everyone gets to cast a ballot, the choices voters make will impact every Filipino and will shape the future of future voters.

Ahead of the election and campaign periods, students from different schools share their prayer for the Filipino voter and for the leaders they will eventually elect.

“My prayer for the New Year is for Filipino voters to choose wisely and responsibly, thinking of the nation’s future. I also pray for leaders with integrity, malasakit, and a genuine desire to serve and uplift the lives of Filipinos. Sana magkaisa tayo para sa mas maayos na bayan—vote for those leaders who have transparency. Bumoto ng matalino at bumoto nang matalino.” - Mark Vincent L. Encinas, Grade 11, Naga City School of Arts and Trades

“My prayer for my fellow Filipino voters, sana ay magabayan niyo sila sa pagpili ng decision, na hindi lamang sariling kapakinabangan ang iniisip ngunit may pagmamalasakit din. Lahat tayo ay dadanas sa kunh ano man ang maging resulta ng election na ito, hindi lamang ang mga botante, ngunit ang mga hinfi botante rin. Gabayan sana ang mga lider na may mabuting intention. Gabayan ang lahat sa darating na halalan para sa magandang kinabukasan.” - Sarah Jane Bongao, 16, Ligao National High School

“My prayer for Filipino voters is that they approach the midterm elections with discernment, wisdom, and a deep sense of responsibility for the future of our nation. I pray that they choose leaders who are honest, compassionate, and dedicated to the well-being of the people. For the elected leaders, I pray that they lead with integrity, humility, and a commitment to serve the country selflessly, prioritizing the needs of the nation above personal interests. May this election be a step toward progress, unity, and a brighter future for the Philippines.” - Tyresse Marley D. Tanuco, Grade 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental

“As a student who is already a registered voter, I always pray for a fair election and encourage everyone to use our voices and vote wisely. Voting isn't just choosing your leaders; it's about selecting a leader who have a clear vision and also taking responsibily for our future including the next generations. As part of Gen Z, I recognize that social media is a powerful platform to spread news especially for significant events like next year's midterm elections. Let us always be mindful to what we post and ensure to read articles carefully since misinformation is one of the key reasons why many are misled.

As for the next leaders, I pray that our voices will be heard. Our country deserve leaders who prioritize the well-being of every Filipino and are committed to addressing the issues we face today.” - Ethan Josh Espeño, 19, Bicol University

“I came across a post today that moved me deeply, especially as we approach the 2025 midterm elections. It was a heartfelt love letter, directed not just to those who truly desire to serve the country, but to all of us, urging us to reflect on the choices we make.

The writer described seeing a tiny girl in a uniform, standing still at the corner, looking so exhausted that she couldn't even move. She was just a child, yet she was out there so late, exposed to the harshness of the streets, hungry, and enduring a life that no one—least of all a child—should have to live. This little girl didn’t deserve to be out there, working at such a young age, in such a vulnerable condition. Yet there she was, just one of countless others like her, trying to survive in a system that often seems indifferent to their suffering.

In the context of the upcoming elections, this story made me pause for a moment and remind me, as a voter to remember those who don’t have the luxury of celebrating in the same way—those whose lives are marked by scarcity and hardship. It reminded me that, for many, the smallest hope and dream is that someday, life might be better. May we choose leaders who see this suffering and are driven by a true desire to serve. Leaders who understand that leadership is not about power or personal gain, but about lifting up those who are most in need.

As we make our decisions in May 2025, let us remember those whose lives are shaped by the policies we support and the leaders we elect. Let our choices reflect the love, compassion, and responsibility we owe to every Filipino child—the ones we see on the streets and the ones we may never meet. May our votes be a commitment to a better tomorrow for all, where no one has to dream of a life that is simply bearable, but one that is full of opportunity and hope.” - Jaune Jacobs, 21, Bicol University

“For the midterm elections in 2025, my prayer is for Filipino voters to choose wisely, may they prioritize the good of the country over personal interests and be guided by truth and integrity. For the leaders to be elected, I pray that they serve with honesty, compassion, and a genuine commitment to uplift the lives of every Filipino and focus on making the Philippines a better place for everyone.” - Jeizel Jampac, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) – Cagayan de Oro

“I can only pray that everyone votes impartially. That people will vote with whom THEY see fit and not who others deem fit as that is what democracy is all about. I pray that regardless of who they vote for and who comes out the winner, everyone accepts the results wholeheartedly. I pray everyone would be able to vote with peace in their hearts eithout having to be worried about being judged. and that everyone will be able to accept whatever results there will be.” - Tweethaye Lho Abo-abo, USTP – CDO

“I pray and hope that every Filipino learned their lessons from the last election. I hope they remember that the people they vote for today will be the ones who hold our country’s future. Your vote matters; vote wisely.” - May Ann Andoy, USTP – CDO
