Hundreds of young pupils and their teachers at West Central Elementary School 1 in Dagupan City filled the school gym with energy as they danced Zumba together for a cause.
More than 600 pupils from the Special Needs Education (SNED) program, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 3 joined the activity led by their teachers, who are certified Zumba dancers.
Sports Coordinator Aiza Mae Ramos said the event was made possible through sponsors.
“May mga sponsor kami. Gagamitin sa upcoming sports event ng school. Then for snacks ng mga bata sa Division Meet,” Ramos said.
Each group of students showed their moves with excitement, some unable to keep up but all enjoying every moment of the activity. Ramos added that Zumba also benefits their health.
“Aside from mailabas ang stress sa katawan, for their body rin. Para malusog at masigla,” she said.
Teachers also use the event to spot potential dancers who can represent the school in other programs and competitions.
Teacher III Lizalyn Nabor said the activity supports the holistic development of the pupils.
“Dito sa Zumba for a Cause, nadi-develop ‘yung physical skills, psychomotor skills na kung saan kailangan na i-develop ngayon,” Nabor said.
The teachers also said activities like Zumba also help children stay active and away from gadgets, keeping them energized while having fun.
