Students in San Carlos City, Pangasinan served up rows of mango-inspired dishes on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as Pangasinan State University–San Carlos City Campus held its Food Expo and Marketing Exhibit showcasing the city’s trademark fruit.
The event highlighted creative recipes made by students, from mini-donuts and mango jam to butchi filled with ube and mango instead of the usual mung bean.
BSBA student Hillary Langgas said the products stood out because they were born from student creativity.
“Mas naiiba ito dahil ito po ay gawa ng estudyante at galing sa imahinasyon ng bawat isa sa amin,” she said.
The College of Hospitality Management, Business Administration, and Computing Dean Marmie Poquiz said the school hopes to bring the best products to market.
“Kung ito po ay palarin ay mapa-commercial po natin kasi ang mangga ng San Carlos iyon gusto naming i-promote na hindi lang siya ordinary na mga recipe but of course makikilala pa ng magagandang commercial products,” Poquiz said.
Students also joined cooking and baking contests, preparing dishes like mango pistachio tarts, mango cinnamon rolls, mango chicken with pickled mango, mango island shrimp, and sweet and spicy mango pork.
Second-year student Izy Manuel explained how different their dish is.
“Gumamit po kami ng java rice, kasi ang iba po ay white rice, parang common na po siya,” she said.
Campus Executive Director Dr. Gudelia Samson said the expo aimed to strengthen student creativity.
“It’s not only a show, pero ang ating mga estudyante po namin dito ay natuto to innovate and to become more creative sa kanilang mga prinepare na mga dishes,” she said.
