A 16-year-old singer from Dagupan City brought pride to the Philippines after winning a Gold Award at the Youth Ambassador Performing Arts Festival in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Jasmine Dioquino clinched the top honor after performing a song that impressed judges at the international competition on December 7, 2025.
Overcome with emotion during the awarding ceremony, she said her thoughts immediately went to her parents.
“All I did was look for my parents, then raise my award and smile at them. Kasi iniisip ko, ‘Mommy, Daddy, I did it,” she said.
Dioquino is a Grade 11 student at Dagupan City National High School, which expressed pride in her achievement. Her teacher said the school community celebrated the moment the announcement was made.
“They’re so excited to welcome her. Noong dumating ‘yung announcement na nanalo siya, everybody was happy for her, congratulating her,” Mildred Balanza, Jasmine’s teacher, said.
This was the second time Dioquino joined a major singing competition. She said the song she performed, “I Believe,” reflected her own life journey and struggles.
“Kahit anong pagdaanan sa buhay, if you believe, you will overcome any challenge and maa-achieve mo ‘yung pangarap mo,” she said.
Jasmine dedicated her victory to everyone who supported and believed in her throughout the competition. She now hopes to join more international contests, including an upcoming performing arts competition in Thailand.
