Student journalists gathered in Dagupan City for a journalism camp aimed at strengthening responsible media practice among young communicators.

The activity was part of the Daluyon Media Summit 2026 organized by a university in the city. The camp brought together students interested in journalism and communication to discuss the role of media in delivering accurate and responsible information.

The event was led by the Alliance of Communication Students, which said young communicators play an important role in shaping information that helps communities.

“Kailangan natin isagawa ang mga layunin natin bilang communicator because walang ibang gagawa kundi tayo,” John Rusty Rodriguez, president of the student group, said.

Marie Eden Soriano-Tamonan, program head of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program, said the activity aims to help students better understand the value of media in today’s society.

“Para maging aware ang mga student natin kung ano ang kahalagahan ng media sa atin ngayon,” she said.

One of the invited speakers was CJ Torida, senior desk editor of GMA Regional TV Dagupan. In his talk, he stressed that integrity remains the core responsibility of journalists.

“Becoming a TV journalist requires a combination of hardwork, dedication and commitment to the values of journalism,” Torida said.

He also reminded students that the media has the power not only to inform but also to inspire.

“Mahalaga ang inyong mga boses. Mahalaga ang inyong mga pananaw. At ang inyong pangako sa katotohanan ay magbibigay liwanag sa iba. ’Yung kamera, hindi lang ’yan lente. ’Yan ay tulay sa pagitan ng bawat isa sa atin,” he added.

Aside from the journalism camp, the Daluyon Media Summit also includes other activities such as the Dayew Magazine seminar and workshop, a magazine-making competition, an inter-senior high school press conference, and the Daluyon Bazaar.
