A group of young people in Davao City has opened a community pantry to provide free food to public utility jeepney drivers affected by the skyrocketing prices of fuel.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Youth Advocates for Pro-People Transportation Network under Konsensya Dabaw said the program began on April 1, 2026.
In this program, volunteers are working together to assist the sector hit the hardest by the fuel crisis.
The group’s spokesperson, Marlou Engreso, said they first assessed the challenges faced by drivers in the city and recognized the difficulties of the transport sector, especially those supporting families and sending their children to school.
The community pantry offers items such as canned goods, eggs, vegetables, among others.
While the group acknowledges that resources are limited, they hope the initiative will provide meaningful support to those in need.
The group also called on other members of the community to take additional steps to help the sector and to continue supporting youth-led initiatives in the city.
