"People go through stuff, they tell their stories, they help others. Then those who got helped get touched and they write their own songs as well. It’s a beautiful cycle" - Mikoy Morales

As he beefs up efforts for his music career, Mikoy Morales is spending time on his songwriting, music production and identifying his genre.

“I’m releasing my own stuff and producing it. Right now, I’m really  focusing on the indie scene… ‘cause we’re exploring our markets, exploring our audiences kung saan ba talaga mahuhulog yung klase ng tunog na nagagawa ko. That whole process [is] very exciting,” he said.

The Kapuso actor is happy to be contributing to OPM and has gained inspiration from two of its icons who were his fellow alumnus of Kundirana, the renowned choir of La Salle Greenhills.

“Started out with the influence of Gary V and Ogie [Alcasid] because they were graduates of our glee club so puro ballad ballad,” he revealed.

As he ventured more into the music scene, he got to know of more artists who have influenced him, music-wise and on a deep personal level.

“Naging fan ako ng The Benjamins, I’m a fan of Clara Benin, 'yung mga ganun. Their kind of music is, I think, the future of OPM,” he declared.

Currently, he has become a huge fan of Ebe Dancel whose story, he saw, was not much different from his.

“Nag-talk siya sa TED. Before [kasi], I was going through stuff and two of his songs 'yung talagang nakatulong sa ‘kin. When I saw the talk [and learned] kung ano 'yung pinagdadaanan niya and kung ano 'yung nangyayari sa kanya kapag sinusulat niya 'yung songs niya, dun ako parang [natamaan],” he shared.

From Ebe, Mikoy learned a lot about himself and his creative process and saw the potential of what he creates.

“[I realized that] maybe there’s a reason why I’m going through this. Maybe I’m actually meant to write songs, to make music, to make people feel [something in particular], so 'yun, [I was more inspired to write]. Then 'yun nga, when I saw the talk, medyo ganun din yung nangyari kay Ebe so it’s a cycle [pala]. People go through stuff, they tell their stories, they help others. Then those who got helped get touched and they write their own songs as well. It’s a beautiful cycle,” he added.

Earlier this year, Mikoy has released his single Pusong Hindi Makatulog. The self-penned song was also performed on the Playlist stage recently.
