Songwriter wannabes, listen up!

Janno Gibbs, the King of Soul and the theme song composer of many GMA soaps, revealed his creative process and shared a tip that could be used by artists of different professions.

First, he internalizes the topic of the song that he writes.

Halimbawa, 'yung Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real. Ang storya ay tungkol sa asawa, sa lalaki at dun sa other woman,” he said.

With that, he thinks of a melody that is apt for the subject. “Mostly ako, ang una sa ‘kin [is] melody. Mas imporante sa ‘kin yung melody, 'yung maganda pakinggan,” he added.

Afterwards, he fills it in with the fitting words.

For him, a creative individual’s mind is always on play so one should always be alert when a great idea comes.

He thinks that it’s important to immediately have it on paper so that the song idea or the song lyric won’t pass him by.

“The trick is huwag makalimutan kasi the next day, wala na 'yun eh. [Huwag mo nang pakawalan],” he declared.
