GMA’s Top One Project (T.O.P.) held with much pride and enthusiasm their biggest feat at a conference of bloggers yesterday, May 29. Miko Manguba, Mico Cruz, Louie Pedroso, Joshua Jacobe and Adrian Pascual of the said all-male group find success on expressing their musicality via their self-titled debut album under GMA Records.

Adrian claimed to have received good feedback and demand on their album. The digital copy of their album was released on April 28, while the CDs were made available on May 16.

He said, “Naubos po actually agad ‘yung mga stock. Kinailangan po nila mismong kontakin ‘yung mismong store para magpa-deliver.”

The members of T.O.P. are more than ecstatic that they can now share their music beyond their group and the walls of the recording studio.

“Ibang iba ‘yung feeling kasi parang ‘yun na ‘yung pinaghirapan namin sa To The Top pa lang. Very proud,” Miko said, referring to the Kapuso show which jump-started their career.

Talagang I’m still very thankful and I feel very blessed na dumating na ‘yung time na meron kaming album.”

Though they were relatively new in the scene, T.O.P. made sure to showcase their musical chops and identity in their album.

“May creative inputs po kami on a certain song, on a certain part of a song. Talagang ina-acknowledge naman po ng GMA Records, especially si Sir Kedy (Sanchez). Hindi po siya one-sided decision every time. Meron pong palitan ng creative juices pero mas mapaganda po ‘yung album,” Joshua revealed about working with their recording label and producer.

“Kung ano ‘yung gusto natin, kung ano talagang kami as a group, ‘yun talaga ‘yung pinapagawa namin,” Adrian added.

Their six-track album comprises five songs that were previously performed in To The Top, while the first single is an original that they composed especially for their debut.

According to Louie, what distinguishes them from other singing groups is their solidarity amidst individual influences and preferences.

“Nag-start [iba sa amin] sa rock, sa jazz, sa pop talaga. [‘Yung iba] mula bata pa, pop na, R&B. Syempre kasama dyan ‘yung OPM sound. Pag hinalo mo ‘yun, ‘yung sound ng album, ‘yung influence, ‘yung mismong techniques ng pagkanta mo, mixed talaga ng lahat na ginawa mong OPM. Nandoon ‘yung [pride] ng pagka-Pilipino talaga” he explained.
