FIND OUT: Where you can donate your hair

By Cherry Sun

After a good haircut, people delight in using the hashtag #ShortHairDontCare.

Most of the time, it holds true because getting a shorter do can really be redemptive and liberating. But, you can do a step further to share that kind of refreshing, revitalized feeling. You can donate your hair!

Hair care tips for short hair

Hair has a deep relationship with self-esteem, identity, and beauty so it's always nice to extend opportunities to other people who are experiencing hair loss.

#ShortHairDontCare: Celebrities who rock a shorter hair cut

To get you started with your hair drive, we've listed a few ways to give others a shot at having a beautiful crowning glory.

Hair requirements

The best way to know the hair requirements for donation is to consult the group or organization that facilitates the hair drive because these may vary.

Generally, however, hair for donation must be clean and dry, and not chemically processed.

Other groups accept hair donattions that are at least 8 inches in length while most require at least 12 inches long to allow some length for sewing and securing into the medical cap.

Hair must also be bundled in a ponytail or braid, and stored in a clear plastic bag if it needs to be shipped or mailed. It is always better to secure your cut hair with another elastic band as untied hair donations will not be accepted.

In the metro, there are a few donation centers and institutions that organize hair drives.
