Make your own spa-worthy beauty masks at home

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

There is nothing a good beauty mask can't cure.

They're just as good at taking the stress out of a crappy day in the office as they are at banishing those pesky blemishes.

But instead of raiding your favorite store for your next mask fix, you might want to look a little closer to home.

Yep, we're talking about raiding your fridge.

Trust us, humble ingredients like yogurt have exfoliating properties while honey is brilliant at busting spot-causing bacteria --hello, gorgeous skin!

Here are the best and most spa-worthy homemade masks to whip up right now.

Just try not to eat them as you go along.

What you'll need:

2 tbsp Lemon

1 tbsp Baking Soda

Toothbrush

What you'll do:

Simply squeeze half a lemon (or more) into a plastic bowl, and then add and blend baking soda until you get a nice abrasive paste-like texture.

Soak your nails in the mix for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, use an old toothbrush to scrub your nails to get rid of any residue. Rinse, and repeat as needed.

How it works:

Nail artist Madeline Poole told Vogue that whipping up the DIY baking-soda concoction helps whiten nails from consistent staining made by nail polish. The whitening properties of both ingredients make the best solution to easily whiten your nails and take care of any discoloration.

What you'll need:

1 ripe banana

2 tbsp Honey

2 tbsp Olive Oil

What you'll do:

Mash a ripe banana, and add 2 tbsp of honey and 2 tbsp of olive oil to it and mix well. Whip until there are no lumps and a smooth mixture is obtained. Apply this mix on slightly damp hair and cover it with a shower cap. Wash off after half an hour.

How it works:

If you suffer from dry and damaged hair, then bananas are your go-to best friend. Bananas are known for their moisturizing properties and can provide ample hydration to the hair.

Bananas are also rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and magnesium which can nourish the hair, restoring it back to health.

For brighter skin

What you'll need

1 ripe banana

2 tbsp honey

1 plain yogurt

What you'll do:

Mash one ripe banana and add the yogurt and honey to it and mix well. Whip until there are no lumps and a smooth mixture is created. Apply on your face and leave it there for 10 to 15 minutes.

How it works:

Just like milk, yogurt is filled with lactic acid which makes a visible difference to the skin by lifting away rough and lackluster surface cells to uncover brighter ones.

We learned that Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados is a fan of this concoction.

In an interview with GMANetwork.com, the beauty queen mentioned dipping her fingers and making the banana-yogurt mask once a week as part of her skin regimen.

She said, “I create my own by mixing yogurt and bananas. I eat them and I put them in my face.

“I believe that being organic is the way to go. It's a staple.”
