Ditch the 10-step skincare routine and try 'Skip Care'

By Felix Ilaya

With skincare products and the cosmetics industry on the rise, many trends have begun popping up such as the famous 10-step Korean skincare routine.

Many sing the praise of the positive effects that the aforementioned routine has done for their complexion like achieving the perfectly luminous Glass Skin.

However, there are those who aren't big fans of the arduous regimen due to how long it takes to accomplish. Instead of finishing all 10-steps, they'd rather use that time to catch extra z's at night.

Others also have had quite negative experiences with the routine, reporting skin irritation or worse, bad acne breakouts like the ones Kapuso actress Kyline Alcantara had.

In an Instagram post last October 2019, Kyline opened up about her intense acne that marred her self-confidence. The actress and her dermatologist attributed the cause of this breakout to be the many different products she tried all in the name of good skin.

"She told me na factor kung bakit ako nagkaroon ng breakouts were puberty affects my hormones. And I have a very sensitive skin na nagre-react differently from the products that I used based doon sa mga napapanood ko na skincare routines sa YouTube," she wrote in the post.

Skip Care

Now, instead of piling layers upon layers of products on their face, more and more skincare enthusiasts are embracing the "Less is more" mantra and are starting to do "Skip Care."

Both Vogue and Cosmo define "skip care" as a way to condense a high-maintenance 10-step skincare routine by using products that target a person's individual skin concerns.

When it comes to skip care, experts suggest going for products that provide multiple benefits such as cleansers that soothe the skin or serums that double as moisturizers.

They also stress that consumers should be smart about what they put on their face. Just because one product or routine is trendy doesn't mean that it will work on everyone's skin. What's important is to really analyze one's skin and purchase products that specifically tackle their problem.

Will you be skipping all the ampoules, essences, creams, and what not in exchange for a simple routine tailored to your concerns?
