Kapuso moms Iya Villania and Camille Prats are known for being cool mommies off-screen to their kids. That's why a lot of moms ask for their aid when it comes to parenting styles they can incorporate every day.
In a segment on Unang Hirit, the two ladies shared their approach in lecturing their children through these different scenarios:
Scenario 1: Your kid throws a tantrum in front of you
To keep a cool head, Iya suggests trying to understand your kids and the reason for their outburst.
If she feels like she was the reason they were feeling that way, then she can't blame them for being in such a bad mood.
For Iya, who is mom to Primo and Leon, the golden rule is to “wait until he calms down and I try to explain.”
Scenario 2: Your kids don't want you to leave for work
Camille, who is mom to Nathan and Nala, explains that it's all about strategy.
“Kapag alam mong aalis ka, naghahanda ka pa lang… Itago mo na siya o ipaaliw mo na siya sa iba,” she says.
Scenario 3: The youngest becomes jealous of his or her older siblings
“Make sure that they are always loved,” Iya firmly says.
The Kapuso mom and Chika Minute host makes sure to give the equal amount of time and attention to her kids even when her hands are full if at times - quite literally.
She recalls a time wherein she was feeding Leon but Primo wants to play. “'Yung kahit nagpapadede ako, sige anak magpe-play tayo kahit busy ako. Gagawa ako ng paraan.”
Scenario 4: Your kid wants you to buy him or her a toy
Camille makes it a point to let her kid know that love and family trumps over any material thing.
She says, “Sinasabi ko sa kanya na we can't always buy stuff you want just because you want it.”
Additionally, she debunks the idea that parents must always reward their kids for doing a good deed.
“Ayoko na makasanayanan nila na porket may ginawa siyang ganito ay may reward na siya. Kasi 'di naman talaga ganun 'yung buhay.”
