Camille Prats on her Q&A with son Nathan: 'There were a lot of parts here na gusto kong maiyak.'

By Racquel Quieta

In her latest YouTube video, Mars Pa More host Camille Prats broke down as she reflected on the Q&A she did with her son Nathan.

Camille discloses, “There were a lot of parts there na gusto kong maiyak. (Pauses) Naiiyak ako because hindi ko lang ine-expect na magiging ganun 'yung sagot niya.”

The Kapuso TV host and actress initiated a Q&A with her son in an attempt to get to know him more.

It started out light and funny with random questions that Camille answered incorrectly.

“I'm gonna guess. Your favorite color is red,” said Camille.

To which Nathan replied, “Nope.”

The two of them laughed, and Nathan eventually revealed the correct answer, “It's blue!”

They then moved on to different questions which aimed to uncover a lot about their relationship as mother and son.

Unexpected Answers

Out of all the many answers that Nathan gave his mom, there were two that made her emotional. The first one was when Camille asked what Nathan wished they understood more about him, and how they can be better parents to him, and he replied, “To have more time, I think. (To help me with) my struggles, things that I'm having a hard time with. Like for example, Math!”

Camille was guilt-stricken for not having enough time for his son Nathan, and confessed that she also wasn't good at helping him with his lessons. She said, “Hindi ko alam kung lahat tayo guilty sa medyo kulang ang panahon para sa mga anak nila. Ako, aminado talaga ako na pagdating sa pagtuturo…it's not my strength.

Maikli 'yung pasensya ko 'pag sa anak ko. Pero 'pag sa ibang bata mas mahaba. It's probably because I have high expectations of him. Kaya parang nagsa-struggle ako to really keep myself composed kapag tinuturuan ko siya.

You know, when he asked for that, I felt guilty. I should be able to do that more for him.”

Another part of their Q&A that almost made her tear up, was when Camille asked Nathan if there's anything more he wants that he knows his parents won't buy for him. Nathan answered honestly and said, “There's a lot of things that I want, but it's okay if I don't even have it. Basta everything that we have it's okay na for me.”

Camille was tremendously touched and said, “I just feel so happy na hindi siya yung klase ng bata na nagtatanim ng sama ng loob, or nire-resent kaming mga magulang niya kasi hindi siya binibilhan ng mga gusto niya.

Kami kasi ni VJ, we really try our best not to spoil him with a lot of things, kahit na minsan I want to give him more because he deserves that. But I also know that it's not gonna be good for him.”

She then revealed that Nathan isn't bothered about getting the newest and trendiest gadgets. Camille narrated, “Gadget-wise, he has hand-me-downs. We don't really buy him new ones. Kung may dumarating na bagong gadgets, I'm sorry but he doesn't have it.

He doesn't have a gaming PC, and a really nice chair, just like what you see on YouTube. And he doesn't bother us for it.

And, if you're watching this, you do, you deserve it because you're an awesome kid. But sorry, it's still a no - not to everything you want.”

Realizations

After the Q&A, Camille seemed to have had a greater appreciation for his son and also for her efforts as a mother.

She said, “His heart is really good. It's in the right place. There's nothing more I could ever pray for than to have a son who's nice. Alam mo 'yon? 'Yung mabait lang through and through. Of course, he's not perfect, but I know he's a good guy.”

Camille then closed the vlog by advising moms out there to do something similar, so they could also get to know their kids more.

She counseled, “It's a routine --what we do as moms-- to bombard them with utos, pagalit, and stuff like that.

But you know, sometimes let's take time to get to know them, their minds and hearts, and what they think of us. I hope you get to do this with your children.

Communication is very important, parang sa mag-asawa, ganun din sa mga anak natin. A better communication, I think, means an easier and healthier relationship for the family.”
