Drew Arellano admits to reducing his TV work to spend more time with his family

By Aedrianne Acar

Multi-awarded travel host Drew Arellano is aware of his priorities, so he had to sacrifice his work just to spend more time with wife Iya Villania and their children.

The members of the entertainment press got the chance to interview the Family Time host in a video conference organized by the GMA Corporate Communications Department recently.

During the interview, Drew recalled the time he was so active in work that he was doing it seven days a week.

He was busy hosting the morning show Unang Hirit and at the same time a travel show.

He shared, “I remember there was a time when I was working seven days a week. I was doing Unang Hirit, Monday to Friday, alam ni Tonipet [Gaba] 'yan. And then at the same time, I was shooting for the travel show [during] Saturday and Sunday.

"That was a big no-no for me actually, when they approach me with a travel show. You know my knee-jerk reaction was 'Wait hold on, I'm doing a morning show already and I'm going to tape Saturday and Sunday?'”

“We worked our way apparently. Puwede pala na Friday afternoon after Unang Hirit you fly or whatever and then do the travel show for two days.

“Fly back Saturday night and then be with my family on Sunday.

“So with that type of thinking I told myself, okay I have to plan ahead. So thankfully I was fortunate that I was able to plan properly and schedule properly.”

But it reached a point that Drew felt that he needed to choose between his work and spending time with his family.

And he chose the latter.

“A few years back, I actually told my manager that I actually just want to work three days a week [of] TV work specifically.

"Three days in a week because I want to spend more time with my family and just do my businesses na lang at home.”

Drew Arellano is a signed artist of the Asian Artists Agency under the helm of Boy Abunda.
