Team Kramer shares three practical rules they live by for homeschooling

By Marah Ruiz

More parents will have to homeschool their children or at least temporarily be part of their kid's education as they stay at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As such, Team Kramer or Doug, Chesca, Kendra, Scarlett, and Gavin, has decided to share a few tips on how they make homeschooling work for their family.

The Kramers have been homeschooling for three years now and are planning a series of vlogs to help other parents who might be considering this option for their kids.

In the first video for their homeschooling vlog series, Chesca stressed the importance of rules.

"Since we are in the comfort of our own home, we felt that we needed to establish some rules because it's so easy to do just the things that we usually do here," she says in the beginning of the video.

Rule number 1 is for the kids to freshen up before they start their day.

They wake up at 8:00 am, take a shower, dress up, and eat breakfast before entering their home classroom at 9:00 am.

Once inside, the kids fix the classroom and get their own things.

Rule number 2 is they set goals for the day.

Aside from Chesca and Doug, they have hired teacher Raycyn Enriquez to help them teach the kids.

Teacher Raycyn writes the kids' daily tasks and activities on the board.

Rule number 3 is to empower the kids to manage their own time.

Chesca and Teacher Raycyn use timers to guide Kendra, Scarlett, and Gavin's activities.

"So the timers, it basically keeps the kids in check. We use this for everything. For the smaller kids, for Gavin and Scarlett, we have to time some of their activities because sometimes you give them such a fun activity that they don't want to stop.

"They want to keep on going and going and going. This keeps them in check na okay you have to do this activity for 30 minutes or 45 minutes," Teacher Raycyn explains.

For Chesca, rules are a guide fo her kids' day to have structure.

"Rules are valuable because when they are designed well and with the best intentions, rules enable and empower. As parents, it is our responsibility to create rules that protect, guide and benefit our children," she says.
