The Bolzicos and The Youngs share how they fight first-time parents' anxieties

Parenting is a 24/7 job. That's why it's no surprise why first-time parents can be overwhelmed by sleepless nights and endless tasks.

Additionally, there's also great fear and uncertainty when it comes to your child's future.

In the recent AIA Philam Life virtual event, Tea Time with the Bolzicos, first-time celebrity parents Solenn Heussaff, Nico Bolzico, Slater Young, and Kryz Uy compared notes on what it's like raising a child for the first time.

Anxities and Uncertainties

Lifestyle vlogger Kryz Uy-Young, revealed that their first three months with Baby Scottie have been fun and challenging at the same time.

“First of all, walang tulog, right? Second, I'm always on, thinking about his sleeping, his naps, his eating, his vaccines, doctor's visit, you name it. Like, guys, we need help.”

Kryz's husband, Slater Young, who's a former TV personality and now CEO of LiteBlock, said that his role is basically to provide his wife with a strong support system.

“Yung role ko is to keep her calm. That's my role in life.”

The Youngs, being first-time parents, thought simply reading a book can prepare them for parenthood and that babies only follow an eat-sleep-poop cycle.

They, of course, realized eventually that things are more complicated than that.

Kryz said, “There's so many things we didn't know we had to consider. What happens in between? Or what happens if he doesn't sleep? What do you do?”

Kapuso celebrity and mom of Baby Thylane, Solenn Heussaff-Bolzico, echoed the same sentiment about how scary it is to not know what to do when you're a first-time parent.

“They can have constipation even when they're just on breast milk, fever--you don't know to do because it's not like your child can tell you what's wrong or they can tell you where it's hurting or what's aching.”

Solenn and her husband Nico Bolzico, founder of LM10 Corporation and digital influencer, also shared about planning on baby-proofing their home out of concern for Thylane's safety.

Nico narrated, “Our house, unfortunately, has a lot of stairs. I'm sure you guys have seen from our stories.

"We're freaking out because Thylane just started crawling and she's super, super fast.

“Like even when we prepare her bottle and we leave her in the floor of her room, two seconds later she's already crawling.”

“I think everyone who has kids goes through the same line of thoughts: 'How can I protect my kid? How can I make my house baby-proof?' Especially first-time parents, everything is a new world. We keep freaking out every day. (laughs)”

Despite the challenges that come with being parents, Solenn encourages everyone to stay optimistic and prepare for what you can so you can have less worries.

“At the end of the day, life happens. It does not always go as planned.

"You can prepare but you cannot always foresee exactly what is gonna happen, so it's good to be prepared.

“This is actually called parental instincts, when you're preparing for what's to come, preparing for the future. You need to be one step ahead of the game. One step ahead of everything.”

Support for first-time parents

During the discussion, the Bolzicos and the Youngs also talked about joining communities of parents like themselves for much-needed help.

Solenn shared how motherhood has changed her mind about connecting with other moms.

She confessed about falling asleep before every time she hears a mom blabbing about her child. And she also said that she swore off joining any more group chats.

But she has had a change of mind and heart ever since she became a mom herself.

“The moment I got pregnant, you know, at two in the morning something happens and who do I call like at two in the morning? Who's up?

“These mom groups are the best thing that has happened in life, in pregnancy life, until today.”

According to Solenn, she's learning a lot from the stories of other moms.

Through the experiences they share, she'd know what to do if ever a similar situation happens to Thylane.

“It's really helpful to have a support group," she said.

As for the Youngs, they admitted to seeking help and advice from all the moms that they personally know.

Kryz said, “I'm tight with all the moms now. It's super helpful to have people to help you.”

Takeaway

First-time experiences are always exciting but scary at the same time since you don't know exactly what to expect most of the time.

And although parenting is such a big responsibility and a lifelong commitment, first-time parents can always turn to other more experienced parents for guidance and support.
