Dra. Vicki Belo shares cute story about Scarlet
Doctor to the star Vicki Belo may be one of the most successful medical professionals in the country, but her achievements did not come without sacrifices.
Among her biggest regrets was missing her children's childhood. "'Yun ang na-miss ko 'yung childhood ng mga anak ko.”
"Si Quark [Henares] at saka si Crystal [Henares] I was in medical school eh. I got married second year proper. Nanganak ako kay Quark 3rd year proper. Nanganak ako kay Crystal internship. So you're always on duty, you're in the hospital. Na-miss ko 'yung age 0-6 parang, katabi ko sila pero nag-a-aral ako, hindi talaga ako nakatutok," she said in a heart-to-heart talk with vlogger Ogie Diaz in his YouTube channel.
It was when Scarlet, her daughter with husband Dr. Hayden Kho, came that she made up for what she missed.
"So when Scarlet is here talagang ninanamnam ko itong age niya kasi, she's 6 now alam ko na from here on more or less what's going to happen, pero 'yung 0-6, that was really something na every day iba-iba, nakakaaliw ang cute cute pa naman niya," she said.
One of her reasons for keeping herself fit has got to do with her adorable six-year-old.
"I owe it to her, and I want to be healthy and young para kasama ko naman siya for a longer time."
With Belo's wealth and success, it would be easy to think that her family, especially her children, would easily get their whims at the snap of a hat. The famous cosmetic surgeon, despite having the capacity to give her kids - especially the young Scarlet the world, still ingrained in her the discipline of practicality which the latter understood very well.
This was evident during their visit to an Hermes store in Paris.
"Nu'ng pumasok kami ng store andami niya nakitang scarves of animals eh mahilig siya sa animals so sabi niya, 'Mommy can I buy the tiger scarf?'" she shared.
"Pinagbigyan ko ng one scarf tapos nakita ko nakita niya pop-up book animals, 'Mommy can I buy this book?' Sabi ko Scarlet you know this is not a toy store, [Bag and leather goods] sabi ko 'darling we don't have the money to buy all of these, I can buy you one thing, you choose," she continued."
This is where the young Scarlet disciplined herself by choosing to forego her desires instead of pushing what she wants.
"Sabi niya 'daddy, I want to have so many things but I don't have the money so I won't look na lang.' Naka-cover 'yung mata niya the whole time. Gan'un siya hindi siya nag-sho-shop or anything," she added. With Scarlet, ayokong ibigay lahat kasi hindi nakakatulong talaga. Kung feeling ko lang makakatulong sa kanya sa future niya magiging happier person siya I would do it but I always stop myself because I know it would be good for her to withhold things."
Moreover, Belo says Scarlet yearns more for non-material things as her source of happiness."Hindi siya talaga mahingi, mas ano siya, play hide and seek with me, patintero, gusto niya yung time, quality time."
Scarlet has been taking the internet by storm with her cuteness since her debut online. As young as she is, she has already become a young fashion icon, brand endorser, and a certified social media superstar.
