Richard Gomez reveals wish on his and Lucy Torres-Gomez silver anniversary
It seems like Richard Gomez is still holding on to his wish to have another child with his wife Lucy Torres-Gomez.
The actor-politician mentioned this when asked what would be his gift to his wife on their silver wedding anniversary next year.
"Kung puwede ko pa siyang bigyan ng anak, bakit hindi?" Richard told select entertainment media, including GMANetwork.com, in an interview after the Piña Festival Queen on Sunday, June 26 in Ormoc City, Leyte.
He added, "We really wanted more children. Kaya lang, siguro isa lang talaga ang binigay ng Panginoon. Until such time na puwede pa..."
However, he said that that this is just his longtime wish, "Kung dumating yung panahon na hanggang dito na lang, wala na tayong magagawa."
He also stressed that he's happy about having a small family because it gives him more time for Lucy and Juliana. In fact, when the pandemic hit, Richard felt somewhat relieved because he would be able to spend more quality time with his wife and daughter.
"Pero natuwa ako noong nagka-pandemic, sabi ko,'Uy, magkasama na tayo. 'Tapos, noong medyo bumababa na ang cases, nalulungkot na ako kasi alam ko na babalik na naman sa school si Julianna, malalayo na naman sa akin," the incumbent Ormoc City mayor said.
After his term as a mayor, Richard will be switching positions with his wife, who is currently the representative of the Fourth District of Leyte. Starting July 1, Richard will serve as the district representative while Lucy will return as the mayor of Ormoc City.
"Ngayong natapos na ang eleksyon, sabi ko, si Lucy naman ang maiiwan dito, ako naman sa Manila kasama ni Juliana. Sabi ko nga kay Julianna, basta may time ka, uwi ka lagi ng Ormoc. Ako rin ganun, every week uuwi ako sa Ormoc."
Meanwhile, Richard is known to have a strong bond with her only child Juliana. However, unlike overprotective parents, the celebrity dad said that he and Lucy are not very strict with their 21-year-old daughter when it comes to romantic relationships.
In fact, the celebrity couple openly welcomes Juliana's boyfriend, Miggy Bonnevie-Bautista.
Richard explained, "Ako naman, hindi ko naman pinagbabawalan si Juliana. Talagang darating yung time na may manliligaw siya, darating talaga ang time na magkakaroon siya ng boyfriend. Sino ba naman ako para pumigil? Napagdaanan ko rin yun. So, imbes na pagbawalan mo, let them be lang. Basta ang importante, nirerespeto niya si Juliana at saka inaalagaan si Juliana, hindi sinasaktan, sa akin ganun lang.
Richard also mentioned that they let their child decide with whom she wants to have a relationship.
"Basta ang sabi ko lang, basta kapag nagka-boyfriend ka, huwag kang sasaktan. Kasi, kapag sinaktan ka, gugulpihin ko kung sino mang lalaki yun," Richard said in jest.
"Di ba, kasi ako hindi ko sila sinasaktan. Hindi ko sinasaktan si Juliana, hindi ko sinasaktan si Lucy."
Likewise, Richard's advice to Juliana is very simple: "Kung magbo-boyfriend ka, huwag kang hahanap ng katulad ni Richard Gomez. Pero kung mag-aasawa ka, humanap ka ng katulad ni Richard Gomez."
He explained, "Yung difference kasi ng boyfriend at ng asawa. Kasi, kung boyfriend ka, siyempre, hindi ka pa naman kasal, you're free as a bird. 'Tapos bata pa ako noon, artista pa, hindi naman maiiwasan na, siyempre, may mga chicks na lumalapit. Alam mo naman ako, mapagbigay ako. I'm a very sharing person, I share what I have. Ha-ha! Pero noong nag-asawa na ako, si Lucy lang, can have me all the way.
In the end, Richard noted that he and Lucy trust their daughter so much when it comes to making choices.
"Sabi ko kay Juliana, she's of age already, nasa age of responsibility na siya, ikaw na ang mag-isip para sa sarili mo--alagaan mo ang sarili mo at piliin mo talaga kung sino yung gusto mo. Pero hindi ka namin sasabihan na ayaw namin 'yan o ito ang gusto namin. It's really up to her," he ended.
