READ: Mak Tumang explains the idea behind Catriona Gray's homecoming terno

Designer Mak Tumang shared on Instagram his idea behind the terno that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wore during her homecoming parade.

Mak, who designed Catriona's lava gown, named the terno "Sampaguita."

"The Sampaguita; also known as Philippine Jasmine, is the national flower of our beautiful country - the Philippines," he wrote in his caption.

"Legend has it that its etymology was derived from the Filipino words 'sumpa kita' which mean 'I promise you.'

"Interestingly, this flower has a lot to do with the concept of 'Coming Home.'

"You know you are home when its distinct sweet and aromatic fragrance tickles your olfactory sense."

Mak also added that Sampaguita is used to welcome dignitaries and to become offerings for saints.

"Ergo, it is but fitting that we welcome our Queen with Sampaguitas adorned with Anahaw - our national leaf," Mak explain.

Catriona will have a mini-parade at 4pm today, February 23, at the Araneta Center.

She also has a thanksgiving show tomorrow, February 24, at the Araneta Coliseum.
