Kiefer Ravena is first Pinoy athlete to represent the Jordan Brand

By Bong Godinez

The first Filipino athlete to join the Jordan Brand has been named.

Basketball star Kiefer Ravena has earned the honor and proudly shared the news on Instagram this morning, April 4.

“I still can't believe that I'm part of the Jordan Brand Family,” wrote Kiefer, who currently plays for the NLEX Road Warriors in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

“I'm very fortunate to have a great support system. My parents, my friends, my teammates and the fans. In basketball, that's all you need.”

The versatile guard now joins an elite roster of athletes signed under the brand including NBA stars Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, and rookie sensation Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Kiefer is the son of former PBA high-flyer Bong Ravena and ex-volleyball national player Mozzy Crisologo-Ravena.

He was dubbed as “The Phenom” even as a kid because of his basketball skills.

Kiefer won three championships in high school and two in college as part of the varsity teams of the Ateneo de Manila University.

He also suited up for the country's national team on various occasions in the past.

In a statement posted on Instagram by Jumpman 23, the moniker of the Jordan Brand logo, Kiefer expressed excitement with the thought of joining the company created for NBA legend Michael Jordan.

“Being in the same family as MJ and so many other names synonymous with greatness - I want to be a part of that. Being in the Jordan Brand family motivates me because I know I'm joining something special,” said Kiefer.

The first Jordan store in the Philippines opened in November last year in BGC in Taguig.

The brand released a limited edition pair of sneakers dubbed Jordan 4 Retro Manila to celebrate the store's opening.

Kiefer was one of the few who managed to get a pair of the coveted sneaker before the actual release. He even posted a photo of himself wearing the shoes while standing in front of the store.
