Bretman Rock wears the same dress Aaliyah wore in the 2000 VMAs
Social media star Bretman Rock explained the special piece he wore at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.
In an Instagram post, Bretman showed the stunning piece that he wore from the archive of Roberto Cavalli.
According to Bretman, it was the same dress that late R&B singer Aaliyah wore 21 years ago. He also admitted that he cried that he was given the opportunity to wear a special piece worn by someone he admires.

"No one will ever rock it like Aaliyah. Thank you so much @roberto_cavalli for letting me wear this special piece. I never thought I would ever be able to wear this, let alone be in the VMAs, when they said I could wear it I literally cried of disbelief. I love Aaliyah and am so honored to have been able to wear this 21 years after her. We love you."
In a Twitter post of Variety, Bretman said that he hopes that the late singer sees the way he wore the iconic dress.
"I hope that Aaliyah is looking down at this little brown Filipino boy giving her dress justice 21 years later."
The Roberto Cavalli dress was worn by Aaliyah in the 2000 VMAs where she won Best Female Video. She passed away in 2001 in a plane crash.
