LOOK: The new Margielyn Didal shoes inspired by Cebu's puso

From representing the Philippines at the Tokyo Olympics and becoming an instant celebrity in Brazil because of her contagious good vibes, looks like Filipina skateboarder Margielyn Didal is slowly becoming a fashion icon.

Last month, Margielyn surprised us when she collaborated with international brand H&M on a streetwear collection, where she personally handpicked the pieces included in it.

Now, New Balance has announced that a new Margielyn Didal shoe called 272 will drop soon and its design is both unique and sentimental.

The NB Numeric Margielyn Didal 272 skate shoe comes in green and black with prominent details on its sides reminiscent of the Cebuano rice snack called puso.

Before Margielyn made it big in the international skateboarding scene, she used to sell puso next to a skatepark in Cebu.

So, it makes perfect sense that the Olympian's new signature shoe is inspired by the Cebuano delicacy that changed her life.

For those who are not that familiar with puso, it is basically steamed rice packaged in weaved coconut leaves.

And one interesting feature of the 272 shoes is that when you touch the sides of it, it actually resembles the texture of a puso.

Plus, the insoles of the shoes also have images of the puso.

In a video uploaded on their Facebook page, Margielyn professed her love for rice and even did a quick tutorial on how to make puso. “I love rice. I can't travel without rice,” said Margielyn.

No exact date has been revealed yet for the launch of the 272 shoes, but it will reportedly be available in New Balance stores, The Athlete's Foot Philippines, and online specialty skate shop Common Ground.
