Roberta Tamondong first shared a peek at the costume on her Instagram account a couple of days ago.
Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong finally revealed her full national costume for the Miss Grand International pageant last night, and the piece inspired by the country's first beauty queen was a dazzling creation.
The Binibining Pilipinas Instagram account posted four photos of the costume designed by Roman Sebastian yesterday, revealing an opulent creation made up of pearls and other intricate detailing.
In the caption to the post, Roberta acknowledged the inspiration provided by the country's first beauty queen, Pura Villanueva Kalaw, who was named “Queen of the Orient” in 1908 at the first ever Manila Carnival.
Before the national costume competition streamed last night on the Miss Grand International YouTube page, Roberta had posted teases of the costume on her Instagram account.
Aside from the national costume competition, Roberta has recently finished the pageant's closed door interviews, calling it an “experience to cherish,” and expressed her joy at being part of “something Grand.”
Aside from the Miss Grand International pageant, two other Filipino beauty queens competed in two other international pageants. Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano finished her run in the Top 20 of the Miss Intercontinental pageant, while Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez ended her journey in the Top 15.
Next month, Herlene Budol will be competing in Miss Planet International. In December, Binibining Pilipinas International Hannah Arnold will compete in the Miss International pageant in Japan.
Should Roberta win the Miss Grand International crown, it will be a first for the Philippines, who came closest to the crown back in 2020 when Samantha Bernardo finished first runner-up. Last year, Samantha Panlilio failed to make it into the pageant's top 20.
