Eri Neeman recalls 'unhappy point' in his 20s

By Aedrianne Acar

Former Bubble Gang actor and writer Eri Neeman took to Facebook to share his “unhealthy perspective” about fitness back then.

In a video he uploaded last February 22, Eri, also known as "Boy Back-up", talked about when he was at his fittest, he also considered it as the “unhappiest” point in his life.

“So someone sent a photo [of me] 14 years ago, back when I was 'hunk' of the month for Cosmo. This was Feb 2010, my God!” Eri said.

He went on saying, “My fitness level, my body back when I was 23 years old, I'm 37 now. So, this was 14 years ago. Now, I could easily make this like a throwback photo back when I was more fit.

“But instead of doing that I thought I would like to share some reflections that I have learned back then about this. This was [the] most fit I ever was, I would say the most fit. But this was also one of the unhappiest states I have been in.”

“I was 23 years old and I grew up thinking, because of the things I went through growing up and how I perceived the world, and myself and being loved. I thought that If I were fit, if I have abs and If I look good, if I thought I have abs I would be enough or I will be worth loving or whatever inadequacies I felt about myself would go away. Because If I look great, I probably deserve to be loved.”

The podcaster and content creator also added that he is now trying to change this perspective, because he doesn't want to feel bad, every time he wants to enjoy good food.

He stated, “This is something I'm still struggling with, my fitness. 'Yung nangyari kasi, kung feeling mo hindi ka sapat sa sarili mo at kailangan mo maging fit. Let just say, kailangan mo maging maganda or maging pogi, or maging super fit or maging mayaman or all of those things, kung ginagawa mo para sa lahat ng rason na 'yun, parang you are affirming that you are indeed not enough.”

“I was unhappy. And what I'm doing now is I'm trying to have a healthier perspective towards fitness and my body. And myself and I know a lot of women go through this already, but men go through this as well.

“So, what I'm trying to do now is I'm slowly saying to myself na when I exercise, I want to be strong, I want to be healthy. I want to workout, so that I can also enjoy food without sacrificing my health.”
