Gym buddy: Is it really a good idea to have one?

There are no easy shortcuts to attain your goal to have a fit and healthy body.

With so many factors we have to deal, from lack of time to poor diet, it is not surprising that many don't pay attention with their fitness, which increases the risk of getting sick.

According to fitness experts, one of the best ways to be motivated to live a healthy lifestyle is to find a gym buddy--someone who will fast-track your fitness goal, gets you inspired, and even turn a bad day in the gym into a good one.

But is it really a good idea getting a workout buddy?

We asked social media celebrities and fitness advocates, Gerick Manalo and Tom Reuh Tacwigan, to give their opinions about having a gym buddy.

Gym buff and chef Gerick Manalo agreed that having a gym buddy is a plus, especially if you have the same goal.

But he stressed that people should be 'independent' because in the end it is your 'responsibility' to commit to a healthy lifestyle.

He told GMANetwork.com, “For me a gym buddy is a great fitness motivation especially if you guys have the same goal, but let us not rely on gym buddies.

“It is still your responsibility to commit yourself to a lifestyle that would be beneficial for you with or without help or support from others.”

Tom Reuh Tacwigan, who was once featured in television show because of his incredible weight loss transformation, said that he used to train with his cousins before.

Based on his experience, a workout buddy is definitely a plus and will do wonders to keep you motivated in every step of the way.

Tom explained, “Having a gym buddy to push you harder whenever you're not pushing yourself hard enough is a blessing.

“However, they're hard to find.

“I've tried working out with my brother but we both have different fitness goals.

“It doesn't matter though. It helps when you have someone who's with you during your workout.

“Get a gym buddy! It helps”

Whether you have a buddy or not, ultimately your fitness success can only be determined if you have the will to make it a reality.

It is a personal journey you will have to take, which makes it more rewarding.
