With so many brands offering a variety of choices and perks, from regular gyms to highly-specialized circuit training clubs, it's not surprising that those who want to get into the active lifestyle would have a hard time choosing which gym membership to sign up for.

it can be overwhelming especially if you haven't identified your fitness goals yet.

We listed down the advice from social media bae/culinary Gerick Manalo and model Jason Dy Tan as they share what the things you should consider before applying for a gym membership.

1. Ask yourself what your goals are

Figuring out your goal is the first step in choosing a gym. Hottie chef Gerick Manalo pointed out that you might end up going to a gym that doesn't suit your fitness goal. Worse, you might accidentally sign up for something that you abhor. For example, you enroll yourself into spinning class when you hate doing any exercise related to biking.

Gerick says, “If you really want to build muscles go for a gym club that has a wide variety of machines and weights.

“If you want to lose weight, maybe a fitness club with more cardio activities will best suit you.”

2. Pick something close and accessible

Another consideration is the gym's proximity. Imagine if the gym was a few kilometers away from your home or office. There'd be a higher chance you would find it burdensome to travel to the gym and end up wasting your money because you won't be able to maximize your monthly membership fee.

Former Mr. Chinatown contestant Jason Dy Tan emphasized that we should always take into account the gym's location. You would not want to sign up at a gym that you can conveniently access so that you would be encouraged to regularly visit it to work out.

3. Clean

Since gym membership is expensive, it wouldn't hurt if you pick that one that is clean.

You would be spending an hour or two in it. How would you be able to focus on your work out if the place was dusty, disorderly or worse crawling with pests like cockroaches?

4. Friendly staff

Gyms can be an intimidating place for a newcomer, so it would be best to choose a place where the staff are friendly and accommodating. Excellent customer service is a sign that the gym is not just concerned about monthly sales.

A good gym employs fitness trainers who are passionate and dedicated to helping their clients, whether they're buying a personal training package or not.

So if you are still undecided, remember these suggestions so you can make the best decision for yourself.

Don't forget, gym memberships can get very expensive, so it's better to choose the one that could give you your money's worth.
