Gerald Sibayan shares fat to fit transformation

By Cherry Sun

Gerald Sibayan continues to be our #FitnessGoals during the quarantine. And to inspire people to start or keep their fitness journey, the pilot husband of Aiai delas Alas reveals what helped in his “fat to fit” transformation.

Gerald was featured in a vlog to tell his fitness story. According to him, his health and fitness went downhill after quitting from the Badminton National Team and concentrating his time on pilot training.

He recalled, “So after ko mag-national team, ang dami kong sports na pinasukan. So ang nangyari sa akin, siyempre na-stuck. Tapos nag-quit ako, gusto ko na grumaduate naman ng college. Nag-aral ako sa flying school. Nagsimula doon 'yung wala na akong ginagawa at all.”

He began flight school at 190 lbs but the hectic and unhealthy lifestyle made him gain weight. He reached his heaviest at 250 lbs.

According to Gerald, what motivated him to return to his healthy practices was foremost his desire to be a licensed pilot.

He revealed, “'Yung una ko, 'yung pa-medical ko sa license sa piloto. 'Yun ang pinakanai-stress ako kasi pagka nag-medical ka sa license sa piloto, kailangan dapat maayos lahat. Blood sugar mo, BP mo. Kumbaga 'pag may mas mataas doon sa normal, pwede kang paulitin. Hindi mo alam kung ngayong month or after six months or after one year.”

He jumpstarted his fitness journey in October 2019 by working out for six to seven days a week. Despite the quarantine, his goals kept him on track. He now has a leaner physique and weighs 170 lbs.

Makikita mo 'yung ibang tao. 'Uy pare, nagko-compete 'yan.' Parang kakaiba 'yung katawan nila. 'Parang okay 'yan, subukan ko kaya 'to.' So na-motivate naman ako ngayon, subukan kong mag-compete.”

Gerald showed his home gym set up in the vlog and he also demonstrated a few of his exercises for leg day. However, he emphasized that it's also important to pay attention to your nutrition.

Further, he told his viewers that the first step to fitness is getting started.

He said, “Subukan niyo muna. 'Wag muna kayo mag-doubt na mahirap 'yan, mahirap 'yan.' Subukan niyo muna kasi kapag nakita niyo 'yung progress niyo, magtutuloy-tuloy 'yan.”
