QC Fresh Market on Wheels brings the market closer to the barangays

By Racquel Quieta

With the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) being extended, and not having any public utility vehicle available for the masses, many people are having a hard time going to supermarkets and wet markets in order to buy food and other needs.

Hence, the Quezon City (QC) local government, in partnership with The Veggie Drop-Off, thought of bringing the market closer to QC residents, one barangay at a time through its QC Fresh Market on Wheels initiative.

The QC Fresh Market was originally stationed at the Quezon Memorial Circle. However, due to the implementation of the ECQ in the whole of Luzon, it was advised to close temporarily by the Department of Health (DOH) last March 14.

But, on March 31, it was resurrected and transformed into a roving market, a traveling jeepney full of fresh produce, meat, and dairy products. It was initially called QC Mobile Fresh Market, but its name was later on changed to what it is now: QC Fresh Market on Wheels.

The QC Fresh Market on Wheels visits different barangays and parks near their barangay hall, so people can line up to buy fresh vegetables and fruits that are sourced directly from Filipino farmers.

They also sell eggs, fish, pork, beef, and chicken. And prices are said to be much lower than in grocery stores and local wet markets.

For the daily schedule of the QC Fresh Market on Wheels, residents can check through the QC Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (QC-SBCDPO)'s Facebook page.

Residents who are planning to buy from the QC Fresh Market on Wheels are advised to bring their quarantine pass and their own eco bag and are expected to observe proper physical distancing while waiting in line.
