5 facts about coffee every coffee-lover should know

Dalgona Coffee is all the rage this 2020 and almost every coffee-lover in the world has probably tried making this trendy drink on their own.

But aside from trying out new trends, you can't say you're a legit coffee-lover if you don't know its history and other interesting stories.

So, below are some fun coffee facts shared by TV host Kara David in her 'new normal' program 'Bright Side.' See if you already know these or whether you'll learn something new today.

1. Coffee arrived in the Philippines in the 1740s.

Coffee was reportedly first introduced to Filipinos by Franciscan monks in the 1740s, during the Spanish Colonial era in the country.

2. Batangas was the first province in the Philippines to plant coffee.

The home of the coffea liberica or kapeng barako in the country is actually the first province to grow coffee, specifically in the city of Lipa.

3. Coffee jelly is a fat burner.

Coffee jelly is a dessert which combines coffee and gelatin or agar, a gelatin-like substance made from the algae called kanten in Japanese.

It is said to be a fat burner.

4. Dalgona Coffee originated in Macau and India.

Although the Dalgona Coffee skyrocketed to fame after being featured in a Korean TV series, it actually originated in Macau and India.

In fact, in the said Korean TV series, the lead actor went to Macau and that's where he discovered the Dalgona Coffee.

5. Dalgona Coffee got its name from a Korean candy.

Like mentioned earlier, the term "Dalgona Coffee" started in a Korean TV series, where the lead actor went to Macau and tried whipped coffee that resembles the Dalgona Korean Sponge Cake. Hence, he called it "Dalgona Coffee."
