LOOK: Pinay chef cooks with Hollywood actress, Drew Barrymore

By Bong Godinez

Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore whipped up her version of delicious creamy risotto with the help of a good friend--Filipino chef Pilar Valdes.

The two came together to create the healthy dish during a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

Drew and Pilar are good friends. Aside from being the co-founder of the New York-based catering business, Kickshaw Cookery, Pilar is also Drew's personal chef.

“Pilar and I bonded early on wanting to make food, because I am a pendulum--heavier, lighter, heavier, lighter. No pretty little middle,” Drew said about her erratic diet throughout the years.

Pilar's take on the risotto dish uses the ingredients winter squash, vegetable stock, fresh herbs, and seared mushrooms.

“Risotto is traditionally made with rice. I'm from the Philippines, rice is queen, I'm all about rice,” said Pilar.

"But sometimes we have to make adjustments in our diet, and quinoa is the most amazing substitute.

"It's packed with protein, it's gluten-free. It's not a grain, it's actually a seed, and it has tons of vitamins, it's really easy, it's a great thing to have in your pantry.”

In the end, Drew showed appreciation to the Pinay chef, saying, “Thank you so much Pilar, I love you.

“I love the life I get to live because of you, I learned so much with you, and from you, and I'm excited to bring what should be a really heavy, heavy dish to this lightness that is so healthy and good for your body, and still give all that satisfaction. So thank you for the satisfaction, baby!
