Nico Bolzico beats 'wifezilla' Solenn Heussaff in piaya cook-off

By Serina Joyce Duque

Celebrity couple Solenn Heussaff and Nico Bolzico were last Friday's Fiesta in a Box guest contestants at FEATR's YouTube channel.

Hosted by Erwan Heussaff, Fiesta in a Box series has guests cooking famous dishes that symbolize various festivals across the country.

In a recent episode, Solenn and Nico were tasked to cook piaya, a sweet unleavened flatbread from Bacolod.

Their finished products were judged by Bacolod-born chef JP Anglo, viral homecook turned content creator Ninong Ry, and Erwan himself.

Since this duo has been known for pulling pranks on each other, we bet that you already have an idea how this episode went!

The clock has not even started yet, but the couple has already thrown banters against each other.

"Hello? Have you ever won anything against me?" 'Wifezilla' Solenn taunted her husband Nico.

After listening to the process of making piaya from FEATR's chef Martin, the celebrity couple proceeded to open their box of ingredients.

Nico, whose first language wasn't English, kept on asking for translation of ingredients to which Solenn immediately countered, "You guys, don't! Let him figure it out!"

Following the steps and tips by chefs around them, the couple made it through the process of cooking piaya: kneading the dough, making the filling, frying the piayas, and plating.

Of course, it would not be a Solenn-Nico content without the latter singing his heart out in the kitchen and just messing around, and the former reprimanding him every time she would get the chance.

At one point, as Solenn introduced the second stage of cooking piaya, Nico blew out a handful of flour from his hand.

Solenn exclaimed, "Look at your germs everywhere!"

With five minutes left on the clock, the couple just got more chaotic with Nico almost burning his piaya and Solenn having a difficult time looking for her cheese grater.

The couple then presented their piayas to the judges.

"I made a piaya from muscovado sugar and I want to enhance the flavor and kind of remove the sweetness. So, I added grated dalandan just to give it a more tangy feel and I just drizzled it with a little bit of coconut jam on it," the actress-model explained.

Nico, on the other hand, seemed to have taken notes from the Masskara Festival presentation and named his masterpiece, "United Colors of Piaya."

"The first one, it's a bit burnt because that burn also has a taste. The second one is a bit less cooked, it's not broken, so it's like a classic piaya. Then I use one with cheese and one with chocolate and coconut syrup."

When asked about the seemingly out-of-place dalandan in his presentation, Nico replied with a serious tone, "Diversity."

After some "careful" deliberation, the judges unanimously voted for Nico's United Colors of Piaya.

Chef JP said it was "interesting" and "new," Ninong Ry liked the sweet-salty combination of the cheese-muscovado piaya, and Erwan compared Nico's piayas to a roller-coaster.

The bullied husband thanked the judges and said, "It's a special day for me."
