LIST: Where to get mooncakes for Mid-Autumn Festival this 2021

By Racquel Quieta

Mooncakes are a staple of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, the second most important holiday for the Chinese people after the Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year.

It is observed yearly on the 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar, to mark the end of the harvest season. This year it will fall on September 21, Tuesday.

In Chinese tradition, people worship the moon for bountiful harvests and they do so by giving and eating mooncakes, marveling at the moon, and telling folk stories.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moon is said to be at its fullest and brightest and the mooncakes are called such because its shape resembles that of a full moon. They are also believed to symbolize prosperity and unity in the family.

Mooncakes are usually filled with sweet beans, meat or lotus seed paste, and yolk from salted duck eggs.

Over the years, several different versions of the mooncakes have come up as new and exciting flavors are incorporated in the well-loved Chinese pastry.

So, if you're wondering where to buy mooncakes for your Mid-Autumn Festival celebration or as gift to your loved ones, you came to the right place.

Below is GMA Lifestyle's list of restaurants and pastry shops where you can get intricately decorated and yummy mooncakes.
