Earlier today (May 21), Unang Hirit hosts Suzi Abrera and Luane Dy spoke with Kit Laserna of Pots for Plants PH to understand how indoor plants can help alleviate the humidity in your humble abode.

“Ngayon that it's summer, kailangan natin ng mga makakatulong to cool the air aside from air con. And indoor plants are actually the cheapest and most natural way to cool the air.

“According to research, indoor plants decrease the temperature by 5 degrees Celsius,” she says.

How does this happen?

Kit explains, “It's general knowledge that plants acquire carbon dioxide from the air and then they emit oxygen. If that happens, they take warm air and release cold air.

“Aside from that, all plants undergo transpiration process. This happens when moisture is carried from its roots and it changes to vapor and is released into the atmosphere.”

Her recommendations for indoor plants that help cool your home include aloe vera, ferns, fig tree, snake plants, pothos, and palm.

“Taking care of these plants should come with ease as you only have to water them when the soil is dry,” Kit adds.
