Actress and breast cancer survivor Maritoni Fernandez has been cancer-free for the past 20 and a half years, but that doesn't mean she doesn't get regular checkups.

On Instagram yesterday, Maritoni underwent a breast tomosynthesis checkup, an advanced form of mammography to detect cancer early when it is most treatable.

In her caption, the actress shared how thankful and blessed she is to be free from cancer for two decades.

“So, I had my half-year breast tomosynthesis checkup today, a few months later than was due as it's been a crazy Christmas season but am super blessed to say it's all clear! Praise God! It's officially been 20 and a half years for me since I was diagnosed. Thank you, Jesus.”

Maritoni even gave her two cents on getting regular check-ups to detect any form of breast cancer.

“Be vigilant with your health and get checked regularly if you are over 40 or have breast cancer in your family. It's a simple procedure that gives you peace of mind which no amount of money can give.”

In 2011, Fernandez shared in an interview that she has had a lump on her right breast since she gave birth to her child when she was 26 but was told by her OB-gyn that she had nothing to worry about.

Years later, the lump was positive for malignancy and had 40 percent of her right breast removed via lumpectomy.
