It was not an easy pregnancy for Mommy Iya, especially since we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an episode of Family Time, Daddy Drew talked about how their family adapted to the “new normal” in order to protect the health of Iya and Baby Alana.

“Bukod sa saya, siyempre nandoon din 'yung takot dahil nariyan pa rin ang virus sa paligid. Hindi puwedeng maging kampante.

“Kung iisipin mo dapat ka maging praning, pero at the same time, I don't know we have been very cautious for the past four months.

“It became so routinary, it became so second nature the transition was not that hard actually. I expected it to be harder, it was a welcoming type of feeling na parang finally some good news.”

He added, “I'm sure bukas darating si Godzilla or mayroon sasakop na aliens galing sa ibang planeta, pero today lumabas 'yung aking baby girl that's always good news.”

If you are pregnant, you don't have to live in constant fear that you might get infected with the highly-contagious disease.

According to the interview of Family Time with obstetrician-gynecologist Ruzabeth Cuya, she said that studies showed that the risk-factor of pregnant women contracting COVID-19 is almost the same with those who aren't pregnant.

Dr. Cuya explained, “Kinlassify lang po sila siyempre pag-pregnant women sinasabing medyo mababa 'yung immune system compared sa ibang tao and then of course siyempre worried about sa baby also.

“The disease is still evolving and then continuous studies being done, they found out naman 'yung risk factor ng pregnant women is halos same doon sa hindi buntis.”

She also advised soon-to-be mommies to follow the instructions of their doctors and adhere to social distancing protocols to protect themselves from COVID-19.

In addition, preggy moms should avoid being stressed during these times, because it might affect their immune system, too.

“Don't worry, mas maganda po you stay calm, kasi the more stress you are, mas nagiging vulnerable po tayo sa sakit.

“'Pag mas mataas po 'yung happy hormones, mas mataas po 'yung immune system mo.

“Gawin n'yo lang po stay calm, practice the proper precaution like social distancing, avoid crowded places, wash your hands and proper cough etiquette and then you take all the vitamins that were prescribed by your doctor.”

“Ang pinaka importante po sa lahat, you talk to your healthcare provider, lahat ng mga anxieties or agam-agam n'yo tungkol sa pagbubuntis mo, maganda po kinakausap niyo na po agad 'yung doctor n'yo para maliwanagan kayo at mabawasan din po 'yung stress sa inyo.”
