Free online courses you can take while under community quarantine

With the pandemic 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) causing a month-long community quarantine in Luzon, many Filipinos are forced to stay at home and experience a bit of change in their lifestyle.

If you are looking for activities to keep you busy (or even entertained!), here are five FREE online courses you can take while under enhanced community quarantine.

Online Class

Scholastic launched a “Learn at Home” website that offers free online classes to keep kids learning while schools are suspended.

On the website, you may choose from the four categories--PreK and Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2, Grades 3-5, and Grades 6+--based on your or your kid's grade level. Each category contains five days' worth of educational content.

Basketball Training

For kids who are into sports, a teen trainer named Ryan Ang offers free livestream basketball trainings on Facebook and Instagram.

During his first Facebook live session, Ryan said, “Keeping kids safe at home and giving them a workout is my #1 priority!” Ang's online trainings, he clarified in a recent post, are welcome to adults and seniors as well.

Art Class

Former Art Is-Kool host and Papemelroti artist, Robert Alejandro, conducts online drawing classes for free on Facebook Live for everyone who wish to enhance or revisit their creativity.

On his personal Facebook account, he announced two livestreams for March 17 and 18, both at 10PM, and requires a pen and a paper for the session.

Yoga Class

I Go Beyond Yoga provides free live yoga classes on their official Facebook page.

From Beginners Ashtanga to Mediation + Vinsaya, yoga teachers (including Sara Black) are livestreaming their classes for everyone to join.

Dance Session

Mark Kanemura, Lady Gaga's former backup dancer, is hosting a daily virtual “Instagram Live Dance Parties.”

According to one of his posts, he encourages everyone to “come and join [him] and people all over the world in a collective energy of love and dance!”

Mark's virtual dance party starts at 3PM (California time) on his Instagram Live. For those who wish to join at a later time, the video stays up in his stories for 24 hours.


Cooking Lessons


'Queer Eye's one-fifth member food and wine extraordinaire Antoni Porowski is sharing his culinary skills on Instagram TV. Branding his mini-show as 'Quar Eye: Cooking Lessons in Quarantine', the actor-chef-model is uploading daily episodes that feature unique recipes from an omelet served with “whatever was left at the grocery store” to cooking leftovers with style. Writing Workshop

Acclaimed screenwriter, novelist, and playwright Ricky Lee will conduct an online film scriptwriting workshop for free on April 8, 15, and 22.

The writing class will only accommodate 50 participants who are at least 18 years old and a Filipino citizen.
