Bureau of Plant Industry launches 'Plantliner: The Green Thumb Challenge'

The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) has been giving away free seeds and seedlings to those who want to try their hand at urban gardening.

They also recently gave instructions on how to request for free seeds/seedling for those who have yet to get some.

And now, they're taking their Plant, Plant, Plant program a notch higher by launching a photo contest called 'Plantliner: The Green Thumb Challenge'.

The photo contest is open to all those who received free seeds/seedlings from DA-BPI, except employees of DA, BPI, and other attached agencies.

To join the contest, one must take photos of the different stages of planting:

1) Garden preparation or sowing

-Be sure to include the seed packets from BPI in the photo.
-To be submitted from May 4-10

2) Seed germination and Transplanting

- To be submitted from May 4-10

3) Vegetative stage

-To be submitted from May 18 - 24

Photos should be sent through e-mail at bpi.information@yahoo.com, with the subject #PLANTLINER.

The e-mail should include the following details:

1) Name
2) Age
3) Address
4) Cellphone number
5) Name and number of seeds planted
6) Number of plants that progressed to vegetative stage
7) Inspirational message

A collage of your gardening journey will be posted on DA-BPI's official Facebook page on May 25. And the react marathon will be until May 27, 5 PM.

DA-BPI will be giving away the following prizes:

First place - 1,000 pesos and 1 cavan of rice (25 kgs.)
Second place - 1,000 pesos plus gardening tools
Third place - 500 pesos plus free seeds and garden soil
Consolation prizes (5) - free seeds and garden soil

Winners of the 'Plantliner: The Greenthumb Challenge' will be announced on June 1, 2020.
