LOOK: Pinoy filmmaker designs Lego's first-ever Sesame Street toy set

By Bong Godinez

Long before Blippi or Steve and Maggie, kids from the pre-internet era have Sesame Street to keep them entertained and learning at the same time.

The American educational children's show aired on GMA Network during the early '90s until 2003.

Through the show, children met the lovable characters of Big Bird, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie, and Elmo, among others.

Now, the Danish toy company Lego, tips its hat to the iconic kids' show by coming up with its 123 Sesame Street Collection featuring mini figures of the show's neighborhood and recognizable puppet characters.

But here's a cool trivia: the toy set was designed by Filipino director, Ivan Guerrero.

Ivan, who studied filmmaking under the guidance of Marilou Diaz-Abaya (Jose Rizal, Muro-Ami), is a big fan of Sesame Street and was inspired to submit his design idea to Lego in 2017.

Lego Ideas, the toy company's community-based website, accepts design proposals from people from around the world.

Luckily, Ivan's design met the required 10,000 votes for it to be reviewed and considered for manufacturing by the toy company.

And after a long wait, Ivan's brainchild will finally hit shelves worldwide, including here in the Philippines, on November 1.
