Here's what to expect at this year's Art Fair Philippines

By Bong Godinez

With quarantine restrictions still in full swing, many events have resorted online to carry on instead of canceling altogether.

Joining the virtual party is the much-anticipated Art Fair Philippines, which will now run from May 6 to 15.

The event was originally set from April 21 to 30 but organizers opted to move it for next month as announced on its Facebook page.

Since 2013, Art Fair Philippines has been showcasing artworks by Filipino artists.

The 10-day event gives experienced and budding art aficionados a venue to see a vast collection of works and learn current and upcoming trends in the scene.

This year will be no different although the entire event will be staged online via the Art Fair Philippines website - and for free!

The exhibitors are a collection of local and international galleries such as 1335Mabini, A3 Arndt Art Agency, Altro Mondo Gallery, Archivo 1984, Art Agenda S.E.A. (Singapore), Art Cube, Art Elaan, Art Porters Gallery (Singapore), Art Underground, Art Verite Gallery, art/n23, Artery Art Space, Avellana Art Gallery, CANVAS, District Gallery, Gajah Gallery (Singapore), Galeria Mayoral (Spain), Galerie Roberto, Galerie Stephanie, and Gallery Kogure (Japan), Pinaglabanan Gallery, Secret Fresh, and The Crucible Gallery, among many others.

And since distance is no issue, guests can also check out the art collection of Moira Lang all the way from Baguio through a virtual tour. Some of Moira's works include writing the screenplay for Smaller and Smaller Circles and Patay na si Hesus.

Fans of photography should not miss the exhibit featuring the works of Paris-based Filipino photographer Ding Panganiban. These are not just some ordinary photographs as Ding uses an old method widely popular during the Victorian era.

Non-fungible tokens or NFTs are shaking up the art scene. But what exactly are NFTs and how is it changing the way people sell and purchase art? Most of all, how can one dabble in NFTs? The guys from Tropical Futures Institute and Narra Art Gallery will shed light on the matter under the Welcome to the Metaverse: The NFT 101 Showcase event.
