Aside from his acting and solo singing career, Brent Valdez was also part of an all-boy singing group.

Kapuso actor and Voltes V: Legacy star Brent Valdez may have found success in his recent role in the hit historical fantasy portal series Maria Clara at Ibarra as Alfonso Linares, but before he became an actor, he was a member of the boy band One Up.

“Nagsimula ito, sumali kasi ako sa isang boy group singing search na To The Top ng GMA News and Public Affairs at pagkatapos nu'n, binuo nila itong grupo na ito, ito na 'yung One Up,” Brent said in his interview in the GMA Regional TV morning show, Mornings with GMA Regional TV.

He added, “Nagkaroon kami ng oportunidad na mag-perform sa Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao through this endorsement at napakarami kong natutunan.”

“Namiss ko 'yun, namiss ko lahat ng mga kasamahan ko sa One Up,” he continued.

Members of the group included Ralf King, Brent Valdez, Yasser Marta, and Dave Bornea, with members Kevin Sagra, Jay Arcilla, Nikki Co, Prince Clemente, Joemarie Nielsen, and Arjan Jimenez being also from the sixth season of the reality talent search show Starstruck.

They were mentored then by theater and concert director Freddie Santos, singer/composer Jeffrey Hidalgo, and choreographer Mark Benzon Pelota from the dance group Maneuvers.

In his interview, Brent said that it was his grandmother who pushed him to sing in front of family members, which made him realize that he wants to perform.

“Bata pa lang ako, kumakanta na 'ko, pinapakanta ako ng lola ko sa harap ng pamilya namin. Du'n pa lang, alam ko na sa sarili ko na lalaki akong performer,” he said.

However, in a separate interview, he admitted that it was not always easy for him to get into showbiz as he had to go through “butas ng karayom” to do so, until he finally got the spotlight.

“'Yung oras na 'yun, I was super emotional. I cried and called my friends up and said 'Woah, this is the first time that I'm gonna be experiencing this na ako na 'yung [nasa] spotlight' na matagal [ko] siyang hinintay,” he said.

In his recent interview, he thanked everyone who helped and supported him in reaching his dream.

“Ngayon, natupad ko na 'yung pangarap ko maging artista at nandito ako sa Kapuso network, isang karangalan, na-check ko na sa bucket list ko 'yung pangarap ko. Ngayon, nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng tumulong at sumuporta sa 'kin,” he said.
