Skye Chua will be the University of the Philippines' first Winter Universiade competitor.

Skye Chua reveals her preparation for the upcoming 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Italy.

The 2025 FISU Winter World University Games will take place in Turin, Italy, from January 13 to January 23.

The Sparkle artist and national athlete will be leaving the country on January 11 to participate in the games.

In her interview, Skye expressed her feelings about representing the University of the Philippines.

She said, "I am the first na representing the University of the Philippines, of course, very proud kasi I've been representing more of my country but I have never had the chance to represent my school or let alone 'yung university of the Philiippines. So very honored and excited, but at the same time nervous."

Skye mentioned that she feels pressured about the upcoming competition.

"Pressured of course, hindi na mawawala 'yun kasi it's not the pressure na I'm holding the name of the university. It's more of pressure sa self din kasi I want to do really well for everyone."

Skye shared details about her training for the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games and revealed that she had an injury before starting her training.

"I started preparing when I first found out and that's right after a competition. So I've been really focusing on strength training ko on the ice. Actually, after nationals which was held last November 2024, I had a back injury so nag-shift 'yung focus ko to more of recovery so I've been going to acupuncture which really helped my back. Noong nag-progress na 'yung parang nawala na 'yung pain ng back ko, that's when I started getting back into strength and conditioning na training ko na normal. Also, a few weeks back, our coach from the States was able to come here. So now, training pa rin bago ako lumipad," she said.

The national athlete discussed her preparation routine, focusing on strength and conditioning. Skye shared, "Like any other competition, it's a combination talaga of strength and conditioning. Now, kapag malapit na 'yung competition, I focus more on program runs. I have two programs I have the short program and the free program. We do stimulations so basically follow 'yung kung ano na ang nangyayari sa competition which is 'yung six-minute warm up where we do all our elements. Then we go straight away to our program runs."

Skye added, "After I have gym sessions, which I do alone naman. On my own time, pero usually I do it after training na."

For the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games, Skye admitted that she has doubled her training compared to her previous competitions. She won a bronze medal at the 2024 Southeast Asia (SEA) Open Figure Skating Championships last July. Additionally, she competed in the senior women's category at the Philippine National Figure Skating Championships in November 2024.

She said, "I feel like mas intense 'yung training that I am going through kasi noong SEA open (2024 Southeast Asia (SEA) Open Figure Skating) also, I wasn't feeling that good before the competition. Hindi ako naka-train as much. Now, mas nag-focus ako sa outside of the skating 'yung mga weight lifting, pilates. It really helps talaga. I see the results when I skate."
