In her latest vlog, Maggie Wilson-Consunji and her mother, Sonia Nales-Wilson, narrated their experience in renovating the 75-square-meter home of her parents.

Wilson House

According the Maggie, her mom and dad decided to just let Sonia stay in Manila so she can spend more time with her apo, Connor. So, she moved into the said home.

First floor (Before renovation)

This is what the first floor of the house used to look like. Maggie said it used to be so dark and felt very stuffy and small. So, she felt like the space wasn't being used to its full potential.

First floor (After renovation)

Here's what the first floor looks like after renovation. Maggie's main goal was to create more space, brighten it up, make it feel bigger than it really is, and maximize its functionality.

Kitchen (After)

The house now has a brighter, modern minimalist look. The kitchen island serves a dual purpose since it has a sink on one side and a casual dining or prep area on the other side.

Wood counters

One of the important things that Maggie addressed in the renovation project was the old wood counters in the old design of the kitchen. According to Maggie, wood isn't ideal to use in kitchen counters because they get molded over time if they are often wet and not well taken care of.

Their 6-seater dining table is conveniently situated just right next to the kitchen.

According to Maggie, the light well is actually a provision for an elevator that they eventually plan to put, for when her parents start to have difficulty walking up and down the stairs due to old age.

The modern minimalist theme of the house continues in the bedrooms, including the master bedroom. Maggie had to extend the room on one side so she could move the bed to that side.

Maggie placed a pull-out bed in the guest room so they can accommodate more guests during sleepovers.

Maggie revealed that placing a mirror in a small room is a clever way to make it look bigger, as it gives the illusion of more space.

And here's what it looks like now. Maggie decided to leave the space empty so she and her father can work on it together. She mentioned that they had a lot of things that are arabesque, so it'll probably be used to house their collection.

Maggie's mom used to lament the lack of a proper place to hang and dry clothes.

So, Maggie created a proper place where her mom can hang the laundry using hollow blocks, railings, and a polycarbonate roof.
