Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle got emotional during his last mass in the Philippines as he's set to fly to Rome after being appointed Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples by Pope Francis last December.

Archbishop Tagle held his last mass for the Filipinos at the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization yesterday, January 30.

He was also gifted with a song, a rosary, and an image of Sto. Niño by the attendees during his send-off after the mass.

Also, present at the event was the Archbishop's parents and siblings.

Archbishop Tagle has begun preparations to take on his new role in Rome by bidding farewell to Filipinos earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Vatican News noted that the last Asian to take on the role of Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples was Cardinal Ivan Dias from India who served from 2006 to 2011.
