MyKuya app partners with conglomerates; creates jobs and business solutions amid COVID-19 pandemic

By Racquel Quieta

Individuals and businesses have been finding ways to cope with the 'new normal' that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about.

With the importance of practicing physical distancing and abiding by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols, most businesses have closed their physical stores and opened their businesses online.

Furthermore, many in the labor force have suffered from layoffs, since non-essential businesses have ceased to operate in the meantime.

However, not all hope is lost in these uncertain times, as the on-demand service platform MyKuya app has stepped up in creating business solutions and jobs for Filipinos amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an online press con, MyKuya CEO and founder Shahab Shabibi discussed how their online platform has extended the much-needed help to furloughed workers, customers, and enterprise partners during the ECQ.

According to Mr. Shabibi, over 100,000 customers have signed up to their platform, and around 50,000 of these sign-ups happened during the ECQ.

Moreover, there are currently more than 10,000 Kuyas and Ates with MyKuya accounts, and around 1,000 of them signed up during an online job fair that MyKuya participated in.

And so far, MyKuya has empowered 100+ business enterprise service providers and plans to help more in the coming months.

Mr. Shabibi also said that MyKuya takes pride in receiving a 98.6% customer satisfaction rate during the ECQ, and aims to continue connecting the Filipino service community through their platform.

Creating jobs for displaced workers

With the temporary shutdown of most businesses, many workers were faced with a big problem: a great loss of income.

And staying true to their number one goal of creating one million jobs by 2022 -a goal they've established in 2017 when their platform was launched - MyKuya has provided jobs for laid-off workers during the ECQ.

“We are taking in merchandisers and promodisers who lost their jobs,” Mr. Shabibi said.

He also emphasized that MyKuya provides not only ordinary jobs, but sustainable ones as well.

And in addition to that, MyKuya enables upskilling opportunities and economic growth for their partners.

Mr. Shabibi also shared a story about one of their Kuyas who got laid off from his previous job.

The Kuya signed up as a MyKuya partner and was live on the app within 24 hours.

He reportedly earned 1,000 pesos on his first day as a partner in their platform.

And, since he was so delighted with his new way of earning, he also convinced his dad to sign up as a partner Kuya as well.

According to Mr. Shabibi, the father and son duo were not only happy about their new daily income, but they also feel fulfilled in serving their community during these trying times.

Making basic necessities instantly accessible to customers

Ever since the ECQ began, the demand for services on the MyKuya app has surged to 700% higher than before the ECQ.

And with many people turning to online platforms for their errands, the MyKuya app has made essential goods and services easily accessible to customers.

Now, people can do their grocery shopping, food delivery, and pharmacy runs online, in one go, and in one platform.

MyKuya currently covers most of Mega Manila and plans to expand further to cater to more consumers nationwide.

Partnering with conglomerates

During the online press con, Mr. Shabibi revealed that several conglomerates have approached MyKuya last week to discuss partnerships.

And he happily announced that they are now official partners with SM Supermalls, Ayala Malls, Robinsons Malls, and convenience store chain Mini-Stop.

Customers who want to buy basic necessities from the said business establishments may now do so by booking through the MyKuya app.

Once matched to a MyKuya personal shopper, a new chat window opens and the customer can now instruct the Kuya or Ate about her shopping list or to-do list.

What's nice about the MyKuya app is customers can do multiple bookings in one go.

It is way more convenient and safer than doing all these errands yourself, especially since the world is going through a pandemic right now.

Rest assured though that the partner Kuyas and Ates have proper personal protective equipment and they also have a no-contact policy.

So, it's not only safe for customers, but also for MyKuya partners.

Helping businesses go on-demand quickly

Also part of MyKuya's goals is to help traditional businesses with digital transformation.

According to Mr. Shabibi, they can supercharge offline2online (O2O) transformation of service providers in as fast as 24 hours.

And they are calling on retailers nationwide who want to go on-demand to come to them, and they will empower you by creating more jobs while helping you grow your business.

Mr. Shabibi also said that a logistics company who signed up to their platform was able to grow their business with MyKuya's help.

From 20 riders, the said logistics company now has 800 riders.

Driving Value to Every Corner of the Economy

During this health crisis, MyKuya's goal is not only to thrive as an on-demand service platform, but most importantly, they are focused on empowering everyone else: the customers, workers, and enterprise partners.

Mr. Shabibi admitted that they have a long way to go in their journey.

But, they are determined to drive value to every corner of the economy by creating sustainable jobs with better earnings, providing easy access to quality services for their consumers, supercharging service providers, and empowering businesses with instant access to labor and services.

In short, MyKuya's ultimate goal is to enable everyone to be their best and making the platform work for all.
