Kai Sotto thanks fans for supporting his NBA dream

Following his signed and sealed contract with the NBA G League team, Filipino basketball player Kai Sotto is taking the time to thank his many fans for supporting his dream of joining the big league.

In a post made yesterday, the 7-foot-2 player shared his sentiments on the many blessings he's received since the big announcement.

He wrote, “In the past two days, there has been a lot of speculation about my next step towards my dream of playing in the NBA. Many people called, texted, and congratulated me and my Titas at East-West Private.

“I am so glad and grateful because it means a lot of you are following me on this journey. I understand that I have a lot of responsibility for all my fellow countrymen who are dreaming of seeing a Filipino in the NBA.”

Since joining a development academy last year in Atlanta, Kai confessed that he's been training hard to improve his skills and building his body “to play against the best basketball players around the world.”

Adding, “The opportunity I was given was wonderful. I am very grateful to all those who support me and personally thanked them already.”

The basketball prodigy then said he's taking the best big leap in order to fulfill his goal of entering the NBA by 2021 or 2022.

Saying, “We have many options available but after much thought, I believe this option is the best route for me to get closer and faster to that dream. Here I will be playing with some of the very best and I will have even more resources and support.

“I am committed to working on developing my game on a much bigger stage. My wish is that you continue to support me and my teammates …. And pray for us and hope for all of our success and health as a team.

“I'm very proud and excited to start my professional career with the NBA G League Select Team. I hope to continue counting on your support,” he concluded adding the Philippine flag in the end.

Kai Sotto is the fourth player and the first international athlete to sign with the new G League select team for next season.

His signing was announced Wednesday, May 13, where he joins other five-star high school recruits namely, Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix.

He turned 18 on Monday and according to ESPN had gotten a lot of attention during the recruiting process from several SEC schools.

Prior to joining the league, it was reported that he was also offered a place at the Spanish club Real Madrid, which is known for training NBA Players like Rudy Fernandez and Gustavo Ayon.
