Mikee Quintos torn between doing showbiz or continuing architectural studies
Kapuso actor Andre Paras caught up with Mikee Quintos in the latest episode of his online talk show, Shout Out Andre.
Andre asked about how her studies are going, to which she shared her current dilemma.
Mikee, who's currently studying architecture at the University of Santo Tomas, said that she feels as if she's at a crossroads, torn between acting and continuing her studies.
"I took a break for a whole [semester] during The Gift, 'di talaga ako nag-aral 'nung time na 'yon.
"'Nung time na 'yon, lagi kong naiisip na parang nag-uumpisa na sa isip ko 'yung sinasabi sa 'kin ng daddy ko, ng mom ko na 'Pag nag-stop ka, 'di ka na babalik kaya 'wag kang magso-stop.'
"Kaya 'nung time na 'yon, nahe-hurt ako lagi kasi nafi-feel ko na disappointed sila na hindi ako nag-aaral.
"Andoon 'yung pressure na gusto kong hanapin ulit inside me 'yung passion ko to study [architecture], hindi ko lang 'yung gagawin ko siya dahil gusto kong tapusin for my parents. Ayoko 'nung ganoon 'eh. Siyempre we all wanna do what we wanna do right?
"Iniisip ko nung The Gift na baka biased lang ako mag-isip ngayon kasi happy ako, nagte-taping ako.
"Baka nauunahan ko lang sarili ko na 'di ko lang gustong mag-aral.
"Pero come January, okey naman, nakapag-enroll ako, I started studying again, nami-miss ko mag-plate, oo, pero hindi pa ako fully into it," she recalled.
It wasn't until a few days into the quarantine when Mikee realized that she really wants to pursue acting and it is what she sees herself doing until her old age.
She confided in one of her sisters about her dilemma and asked for her advice.
"One night, kinuwento ko 'yon sa ate ko. Sinabi ko sa kaniya na, 'Ate, napapaisip ako, ganito nafi-feel ko, how am I gonna tell my mom and dad? How are they gonna understand this?'
"Sabi niya sa'kin, 'Sinasabi mo na nand'yan 'yung passion mo, 'yung heart mo sa acting. If it's really there, kahit mag-aral ka, kahit gaano katagal 'yung kunin mong break sa showbiz, babalik at babalik ka 'eh. Magkakaroon at magkakaroon ka pa rin ng work in the future kung nand'yan talaga 'yung heart mo.'
"Doon ulit lumakas 'yung loob ko na, oo nga, 'yung fear ko na baka ma-affect 'yung career ko if I take a break, sabi niya lang na 'Whatever you do, give your best pa rin kahit dina-doubt mo sarili mo. Eventually, everything's gonna fall into place.'
"Doon ko nga naisip na it's true na if it's for you, it's gonna happen. You just have to trust the process and trust God that he has a plan for you.
"Tapos 'yun na, na-excite na akong mag-plates ulit," she said.
