Cherie Gil just joined the Black and White Picture Challenge and added a helpful trivia to enlighten people on the campaign's purpose.
The Kapuso actress posted a dramatic black and white photo of her taken by photographer Mark Nicdao. She captioned the post with a story behind the trending picture challenge, which she learned from her daughter Bianca Rogoff.
"Ok now I've been enlightened about the black and white photos being challenged by many for us to post.
"At first I didn't understand Why and what it was all about?
She then thanked her daughter for the insight on the challenge's origin, which involves violence against women.
"Thank you Bianca Rogoff for this valuable information. Started in and because of Turkey after all , where women are being abused both physically and emotionally by men.
"Some, by their own partners, even to the point of their demise. Still happening now. So here I am again and in support of #womenempoweringwomen.
"I challenge all my SHERO friends to continue to do the same.
"Now it makes all the more sense to me in honor of #pinargultekin and many more women who fell victim just like her. She was only 27 years old :("
Cherie was referring to the murder of 27-year-old Turkish student Pinar Gültekin, whose death inspired a campaign to address the soaring rates of violence against women.
