Streaming movies online is the way to go at this time of the pandemic.

However, there are efforts being made to test how the actual cinema experience could work during the so-called new normal.

SM and Ayala Malls have started doing drive-in cinema events. There's also Drive-in Manila, which is touted as the country's first independent pop-up cinema.

The 2020 edition of QCinema International Film Festival is also staging an outdoor film viewing session for two days although on a by-invitation-only arrangement.

Now, a new cast is joining the fray and is set to welcome viewers starting this December.

The first and only float-in cinema is coming to McKinley Hill in Taguig under the watch of Megaworld Cinemas.

Posting on Facebook, Megaworld Cinemas happily announced: “We can't keep it a secret any longer! We're so excited to be bringing the first and only float-in cinema in the Philippines this December.”

The exact venue was not mentioned although the Venice Grand Canal Mall is the likely location as it has the facilities and is managed by Megaworld Corporation.

Floating cinemas are currently a hot trend worldwide as cinema and leisure companies resort to open spaces rather than indoor theaters to manage the threats of COVID-19.

Just some of the countries that have embraced the concept include the USA, France, the United Kingdom, and Israel.

Australia is going along with the flow as it opens its version of the floating cinema experience from December 3 until March 21, 2021.
